About Our Award Programs

Violet Richardson Award. This award honors Soroptimist's founding president, Violet Richardson. Ahead of her time, Ms. Richardson took 1920 Oakland, CA by surprise. Determined to create a useful organizations comprised of professional women, Violet Richardson knocked on doors to encourage women to work together toward a common cause. She was able to build the first ever Soroptimist Club and began making a difference for women in her community within a few short years. Today, clubs throughout the world recognize her spirit by honoring a young woman who has shown dedication and service to a cause that directly impacts the lives of women and girls. This award is given annually by Soroptimist International of Camarillo to a woman between the ages of 14 and 17 years. Amy Durst McAvoy Scholarship. This award was established to honor a cherished member of Soroptimist International of Camarillo. Ms. McAvoy was a talented architect and important community member who was passionate about education, particularly in math and science. The award, given annually by Soroptimist International of Camarillo, is open to women enrolled at the California State University at Channel Islands who are registered as a math or science major. This award is intended to help women pursue their dreams and fulfill their educational requirements. Women's Opportunity Award. This recognition is awarded annually by Soroptimist International of Camarillo as a way to strengthen the chances and opportunities of women heads of household who have enrolled in a traditional or vocational education program. This award is intended to encourage its recipients and help them toward their dreams of achievement. The award is open to women in Ventura County who are primary caregivers to their children or parents and who have made progress toward recognizing and changing their situation. Making a Difference For Women Award. This award is to recognize remarkable service by an individual on the behalf of women and women's issues. It is open to anyone who has dedicated time and energy to create positive change in the lives of women and girls.
